When your pet is healthy, lustrous, beautifully groomed and very playful you indeed deserve to flaunt it. This sense of healthy competition that my dog is better kept and spruced than yours gave rise to these kinds of shows. In today’s scenario a Dog Show is beyond just what it literally means. There is a great variety in the format of shows. Namely:
Novelty show: This completion is based on some novel characteristics in your dogs rather than the regular standards. Competitions like pets in fancy dress, pet and owner look alikes are few novelty shows conducted.
World’s ugliest dog show: This is for those pets are far from looking beautiful, but are healthy and well kept, and their unique selling proposition lies in their not such acclaimed good looks.
Specialty show: This contest is held for only one breed of dogs, and judged keeping every little detail in mind. These are fierce specialist competition.
Field Trial: This is specifically for hunting dogs that compete with each other in open fields. Organized by gun dog organizations or kennel clubs these are particularly for flushing dogs, retrievers and pointing dogs.
Obedience Trial: As the name suggest, the winner of such a competition is the one who most obediently abides by all the commands of the master.
Sheepdog Trial: Famous in hill farming areas in this contest dogs are asked to move sheep stock around the farm, fence or hills as directed by the master.
Dog Show: In its most conventional sense it is a competition between all breeds, where the dogs have to graduate though many levels. The most coveted position in such a show is the title of “Best in show”.
