Dogs have large nails which have to be clipped every once in awhile for the sake of personal hygiene. However this is not something that can be done too easily and there are certain precautions which you have to take when clipping the nails of your pet dog. By doing so, you will get the job done and avoid causing your pet any pain at the same time.
Wash Nails in Warm Water
The first thing which you need to do is wash the paws of your pet in warm water before chipping of the nails. The warm water will make the nails soft and suitable for being cut off with a clipper.
Use the Correct Clipper
The second important thing which you need to bear in mind is to use the right clippers for the job. There are specific clippers that are available in the market for clipping the nails of dogs.
Clipping should be Done over a Towel
Keep a towel laid over the area on which your dog rests in paws while the clipping work is in progress. By doing so, you will avoid spreading the nails across the room and thus prevent the spread of infection that might otherwise have emanated by these nails being scattered loosely.
Needs to be Done Slowly
Do the job as slowly as you can. Dogs have sensitive paws and their nails too are quite sensitive. Be gentle while using the clippers and hold the paws in your hand with a tight grip as your pet will make an attempt to move it rigorously.
